Mutual Aid

Major fires and emergencies require more resources than any one town may have. The Newbury Fire Department relies on the surrounding towns to support the department and provides mutual aid to these communities in the event of large fires in these towns. Through the system of mutual aid, adjacent towns respond to Newbury first with those further away also respondiing as needed. Some communities may also have specialized equipment such as aerial ladder trucks, ambulances, heavy rescue equipment and hazardous materials response equipment that are provided through the mutual aid system.
